the time has come again to welcome two new faces to the second state gang. introducing two of russia’s biggest exports and house elite, julia govor and tripmastaz. between julia govor’s recent meteoric rise and tmz s (the fresh alias for the more techno leaning output of tripmastaz) long discography of avant-garde clubland hits, the pairing of the two are a match made in heaven. over the course of three tracks the pair craft an expertly woven tapestry of hefty sonics resulting in their debut collaboration, ‘the probability’ ep. from the start, the aptly titled ‘1-’ kicks off with an enormous breakbeat kick and distant reverb heavy percussion forging a shimmering atmosphere as energetic hi-hats and swirling tones crescendo into a deep yet celestial fervor. ‘plus two’ sees the pair spawn their heaviest tune of the bunch as rolling low end and trippy, churning synths give way to a barrage of energetic claps and racing ride cymbals sure to make any dancefloor explode. wrapping up the ep is ‘equals tree’ where ethereal tones and flickers of delicate acoustics defy a monotonous yet robust groove culminating in a beautiful display of opposing forces. we couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this stunning ep and we know you will revel in it for a long time to come

picking up where they left off three years ago, modern heads, the much-respected collaboration between gianluca meloni and dino sabatini, are back with a dynamic and intriguing four track ep. the duo go straight in here with the club-ready athena. throughout this track, tight percussive elements wind in and around one another, creating an ever-changing rhythm that you can only just hold onto. under this, tense synths pulse away, producing an opaque and insular atmosphere. next up, eumaeus lightens the mood somewhat, providing clarity with a distinct opening drum pattern. this mood doesnt last long though, as indiscernible, haunting vocals begin to echo in the distance, gradually moving closer and further in the mix as sharp pads swoosh either side. side b of the record opens with the deepest and longest track of the ep, eurycleia. simple yet unrelenting drums frame this hypnotic sci-fi episode, through which otherworldly screeches and rumbles reverberate over the twinkling sounds of machines. eurycleias atmosphere continues straight into the final track, laertes theme. this beatless piece takes eurycleias exploratory mood and extrapolates it over five and a half minutes, resulting in what feels like the perfect soundtrack to a glacial expedition in alien territory. as an ep this is a complete and coherent package, a perfect extension to modern heads previous work. the sound palette is familiar, yet refined, developed upon and taken further. the old beggar is undeniably worth the wait for anyone with a taste for the extraterrestrial.

its been some 7 years since reggie dokes was last seen & heard on a wph release, so safe to say this one is long overdue. our detroit hero took a bit of a hiatus from music production in recent years, but he is back and has been cooking up some serious heat. on wph 004 one of the tracks received a slight edit treatment by fcl and so red d decided it would be a nice twist to do the same on this one. but seeing as san soda was globe-trotting again red d handled the edit duties solo. which is all academics really, because in the end its about reggies unique detroit sound. transpose & jazz is my mistress will appeal to any adventurous dance music dj because they cannot be categorized or compared to anything. they are reggie dokes tracks and reggie dokes tracks are what they are: reggie dokes tracks

while he may have been spotted in gentlemen s dub club amongst other festival friendly acts, as xoa nick tyson is going it alone to create globe-trotting sounds that speak to his musicianship and keen instinct for other kinds of grooves. there are in fact additional vocal spots on this ep including anthony joseph and monika liu, but the record is definitely pulled together by tyson s focused, refined vision. -in so- is a notable delight with its skittering beat and laconic guitar lines. watch out for the b side though, where the tracks get appropriate club revisions. byron the aquarius remix particularly stands out, injecting some broken beat bump into -in so-.
